JEEP RENTALS

This is the only way to really see the Rockies. Each year we buy new Jeep Wranglers, automatic transmissions for those who are clutch impaired. Each jeep also has air conditioning - there we go again - making sure momma’s happy. There’s hundreds of miles of 4-wheel drive roads and we provide you with the trail maps. We do have an age requirement, no whipper snappers under the age of 25 can rent them. Be prepared to do your best billy goat impression and then take in the most spectacular scenery you’ve ever seen.

RAFTING

Rafting the Rio Grande is worth doing. The calmness of the river, the surrounding mountains and cliffs, the peeking into people’s cabin windows as you float by, make it one of the most fun activities The Cove offers. The tour is self-guided, we put you in and we pick you up - sorry the paddling is up to you. We have 2 to 6 person rafts and all the safety gear. The trip is 14 miles, but time disappears quickly from pure enjoyment of the float.

GUIDED HORSEBACK RIDES

Now where would a “dude ranch” be without the horses. It is prerequisite - "101" in dude ranching. You will truly feel like a cowboy as you wind up and down the scenic and secluded mountain trails. If you’re not singing “Get Along Little Cowboy” when you ride back into camp, we suggest you stick to the fishing.

FISHING

Men, women and children have been coming to this area of the country for the fishing since before Hector was a pup. It is known, by all fisherman, throughout the country. You’ll enjoy fly, lure and bait fishing right at The Cove. The Rio Grande river is right out your back door and we own our banks, which in layman terms means “nah, nah, nah, nah, nah - no one else can fish it.” To ensure your catch, we stock not only our catch ponds, but our river as well with the biggest, meanest, most humongous trout you’ve ever laid your eyes upon. They’re also the smartest, you will need some type of fisherman skill to catch them (although we are trying to train them to jump on your hook).

All vistors can enjoy open-water gold-medal fishing. In addition to the Rio Grande, fisherman have access to hundreds of miles of river and stream trout fishing and dozens of lakes. Don’t forget to pick up your fishing license at the lodge, so you don’t get picked up by the game warden.

For the kiddos and really bad fishermen, we provide a catch-pond filled with 12” to 5 lb trout where you have no limit and no license requirement. Just remember, what you catch, you must keep, what you keep, you have to clean, what you clean, you have to pay for. Easy concept, easy fishing.
